The 4 Keys To Develop A Never Give Up Attitude

Those who succeed in achieving their dreams always have one trait in common: they never give up. However, a never give up mentality isn’t something they acquire after obtaining success, it’s something that is developed along the way.

It’s important to realize that a never give up attitude isn’t something that happens overnight; it takes time. But once you develop a strong mentality coupled with a clear vision, your powers become endless. You’ll be able to achieve anything you set your mind to. In fact, this is also one of the ways to develop a mindset for success.

Here are four keys to develop a never give up attitude:

1. Change your perspective

The first step to cultivating a never give up attitude is to change your thinking. In fact, the first step in any significant change in your life is to understand the power of perspective. Henry Ford said it best with “Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t you’re right.” It makes sense that the father of the automobile would say such a thing too!

During a time when people were only looking for faster horses for their buggies, Ford pursued his vision of mass producing automobiles. I think we all know what happened after that. The morale of the story is to believe in yourself because when you believe, you will achieve.

2. Be persistent

Persistence is often considered to be the key to success. Some may argue that persistence alone composes the entire never give up mentality. Persistence by definition – the firm or obstinate continuance in a course of action in spite of difficulty or opposition – fits the mold of a no quit attitude.

However, I believe persistence is only one of the traits one needs to improve upon to develop a never give up attitude. Whether it’s chasing your dreams to be a millionaire or proving your doctors wrong by walking again; you can’t give up the minute the road gets bumpy. And you certainly can’t give up when others tell you that you can’t do something (the #8 reason to never give up). The ability to keep pushing forward no matter the circumstances – that’s persistence.

3. Develop Grit

An argument can be made that persistence and grit are the same thing, but I view them differently. I see grit as mental toughness that is developed over time by being persistent. Grit is about being both persistent and passionate about achieving your goals no matter how many obstacles you face or how long it takes. Grit is consistency, not giving up, and finding a way because you understand the long term value of your goals. When you develop grit you’re in it for the long haul and not willing to sacrifice the long term value for the short term gain of quitting.

Grit is sticking through until the end. I believe the way you handle your challenges is also the way you build your grit. Some of the most successful leaders and greatest athletes who came from nothing are also some of the grittiest people. Grit gets you places.

4. Be Resilient

Being resilient is the ability get back up even stronger than before when you get knocked down. When you’re facing your challenges or chasing your dreams, you’re going to get pushed around, you’re going to get dirty and you’re going to have to decide to either stay down or get up. The decision you make will determine whether you achieve your dreams or not.

How you handle your setbacks is a leading factor in determining your success. To become resilient you need to stay optimistic, keep your cool, and accept failures as a form of helpful feedback. Instead of allowing your pain to weigh you down, use it as motivation to achieve your goals. Your ability to be resilient will allow you to march on even during your darkest times.

Developing a never give up attitude isn’t easy and will take time, but remember you started this for a reason. You owe it to yourself to see your goals through until the end. If you’re still having doubts to continue on then check out the top 10 reasons to never give up.
