The Goal Setting Questions To Ask Yourself Before Crafting A Vision

Creating goals can be difficult, overwhelming, and even daunting at times. Deciding which goals to create for ourselves can become so stressful that we just give up and don’t set any goals at all. But, goals are meant to uplift your spirits, encourage your passions and force you outside your comfort zone. They’re meant to empower you, not disable you.

The biggest challenge with setting effective goals is knowing which goals to set. Goals can apply to many aspects of your life: relationships, career, spiritual, financial, health, etc. Your goals can be long term, short term, or intermediate. Either way creating effective goals, begins with asking yourself the right goal setting questions first.

If you want to get the most out of this then don’t be afraid to go outside your comfort zone. If it helps, think back to when you were a child when you had zero doubts of what you could achieve. Go back to to the times when you wanted to be an astronaut, a princess, a fireman or the President. In order to get the most of out this exercise, put yourself in a state of mind where anything is possible.

When doing this, you want to consider every area of your life. Grab a piece of paper, a pen, maybe a cup of coffee and let’s get started! Don’t forget writing down your answers and goals makes you more likely to achieve them.

Answer this question first:

  1. What do I want my life to look like in a year from now?

Although the purpose of this exercise is to focus on your vision for the next year, it’s equally important to look ahead. Take some time to figure out where you want to be in the next 3-10 years and craft your vision to be inline with the overall goals.

What are your next steps?

  1. Take the answers you’ve written down from these questions and come up with a vision for your future.
  2. Break down your vision into smaller chunks and run them through the SMART method
  3. Whenever you’re stuck revert back to asking yourself the right questions to stay on track and reach your goals.
